Bitcoin tops $79K, oil falls as Trump says Iran war could end

BTC is around $77,979, up roughly 1.4% on the day, and the headline says it tapped $79K before cooling. The fact that it ripped on a geopolitical de-escalation headline tells me the market was pricing in worst-case risk, and now it's unwinding that fear premium. Long-term, this is noise — but it's the kind of noise that shakes out weak hands and lets patient money accumulate.

My read: if you're a multi-year holder, you don't trade this headline, you use it as a reminder that BTC's correlation to macro events is still real. Compare it to $ETH at $2,517, up only 1.2% — BTC is still the cleanest geopolitical hedge in crypto, and that's not changing.

Risk to flag: a ceasefire headline can flip as fast as it appeared. If the war re-escalates, that $79K print becomes a local top fast. Our market thermometer sits at 43°, so we're not overheated — that's actually comforting for long-term buyers. Don't chase the spike, just keep stacking on weakness.

SOXL plunges 17%! With the FOMC meeting and "Triple Witching" just around the corner, is the AI market facing another test?

Opened my app, saw the red, and yeah — SOXL down roughly 17% is the kind of number that makes you put the phone face down for a second. The 3x leveraged semis ETF getting smoked into an FOMC meeting plus triple witching tells me this is partly mechanical: dealers hedging, options expiry, and rate fear all stacking on top of each other, not necessarily an AI demand problem.

My read is bearish short-term but I'm not panic-selling the semis thesis. Higher-for-longer rates hit the most leveraged, longest-duration growth names hardest, and SOXL is basically that on steroids. Compare it to plain $NVDA or $AMD — those got hit too but nowhere near a 17% single-day hole, which is exactly the leverage tax you pay for the upside.

The risk I keep coming back to: if the Fed actually hikes in September, this isn't a one-day flush, it's a repricing. Triple witching just amplifies whatever direction we're already going. Roughly 80 years of history on September hikes isn't a comforting stat either. Staying put, but not adding.
